Flu jab uptake transformed in a single season

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust more than doubled staff flu vaccinations and now matches the national average for frontline staff.

Ashford and St Peter’s more than doubled staff flu vaccination uptake in 2025/26 with a campaign focused on making vaccination easy, accessible and relevant for staff.

The number of peer vaccinators – trained staff who can vaccinate colleagues – increased from 5 to 40, making it possible to offer vaccinations around the clock, including at weekends.

Pop-up clinics, early morning sessions and site-wide access removed other practical barriers and the communications around the campaign used real staff stories to build confidence and reduce hesitancy.

The work was strongly backed at board and divisional leadership level and has left the trust with broadly consistent uptake across all staff groups, ranging from 44% to 48%.

The trust is now looking at how it can build on its success for the upcoming autumn campaign.
