Senior NHS figures stress Muslims can get COVID-19 jab in Ramadan
Two leading Muslim figures working in the NHS have today joined other medical leaders and Islamic scholars in stressing that Ramadan should not stop anyone from getting the COVID-19 vaccination. Getting the jab does not break the fast observed by Muslims during daylight hours over Ramadan.
We have published a guide to support the uptake of the vaccine amongst Muslim communities during the month of Ramadan.
Prerana Issar, NHS Chief People Officer, has thanked Muslim colleagues who have been working incredibly hard, along with colleagues from across our NHS, many while navigating the additional challenge of fasting for Ramadan.
If you are 45 or over, have a health condition that puts you at greater risk, are a health or social care worker or an unpaid carer, and you haven’t booked your first dose yet, the time to do so is now. You can find out how at nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by phoning 119. People are also urged to come back for their second dose when they are contacted or if they have an appointment booked.
