Build, test and cost your NHS Federated Data Platform application, before you commit.

Suppliers interested in Solution Exchange can now access a free Product Development Environment (PDE) to start building and testing applications on the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP). It is a hands-on space to prototype ideas, shape products around real NHS workflows, and understand what it takes, technically and commercially, to run their solution on NHS FDP, all ahead of formal assurance and deployment through Solution Exchange.

The PDE gives suppliers a genuine head start: rather than designing in the abstract, they can develop against the same platform capabilities used by the NHS, sense-check their architecture, and get an early view of the computing power and resources their product will consume in live operation.

Who this is for

The PDE is designed for suppliers who:

• are interested in building or integrating applications for the NHS on the NHS FDP
• want to understand how Foundry can be used to develop or integrate applications for the NHS FDP
• need an environment to rapidly prototype application ideas, operational workflows and test assumptions ahead of assurance and deployment through Solution Exchange

Whether you are an established supplier refining an existing product, or a start-up exploring the NHS opportunity for the first time, the PDE lets suppliers test their thinking in a realistic setting before investing further.

Test your product, and test your costs

Inside the environment suppliers can:

• deploy and run their application against the FDP Canonical Data Model using synthetic data
• observe how their product consumes compute as workflows, data volumes and user patterns change
• refine their design to run efficiently before committing to live deployment
• use those insights to build a more accurate commercial and pricing model for NHS customers

Applications interact with data through the Ontology, which provides structured, type-safe access to the governed objects, actions, and functions used across the platform. That means the products you build in the PDE:

• align with the shared FDP Canonical Data Model
• inherit platform-level governance, access controls and auditability
• are built in a way that is consistent with NHS operational and security expectations

This helps ensure Solution Exchange products can move from prototype to production safely and predictably.

How to get access

Suppliers can register directly for a free Foundry Developer Tier enrolment.

Access is free and allocated on a self-service basis, subject to capacity.

Once registered, developers can see their available capacity and plan limits from the “Your Plan” page in their Foundry account.

What support is available

Developer Tier access is provided on a self-service basis. Direct support is not included as part of the free tier, but suppliers have access to a rich set of self-serve resources to help them get started quickly:
