Clinical and operational improvement guides

As part of NHS England’s improvement work (NHS IMPACT) colleagues – including the Emergency Care Intensive Support Team (ECIST) and Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) – have been working with colleagues from across the NHS to develop a series of improvement guides and supporting infrastructure.

These guides have been created, informed and tested with NHS staff. We want to understand how they work for you and your teams, and how we can further develop and improve them to make them as useful as possible to support local improvement programmes.

Therefore, these are interim guides – our intention is they will be refined, developed and updated as we learn what works through your teams.

Please share your ideas and feedback with us by emailing england.clinops@nhs.net, or through your local learning and improvement network.

The guides cover:

Improvement analytics

To support your local improvement journey, alongside the improvement guides there are three new analytics compartments in the Model Health System focused on UEC flow, theatre services and outpatient services.

Once registered for the Model Health System, you can access the compartments directly here:

The indicators cover a range of process, outcome and quality metrics which trusts and systems can use to track progress against implementation of the ‘change ideas’ set out in the guides.
