Managed Clinical Networks

The Local Dental Network is supported by a number of Managed Clinical Networks (MCNs) that feed into the main LDN meetings. The Chairs of the Managed Clinical Networks sit on the main LDN.

The Managed Clinical Networks are as follows:

NHS England published the Commissioning Guides and Clinical Standards for the specialties in dentistry with the intention to encourage improved patient experience in receiving dental care across all aspects of dentistry in primary, salaried, secondary and tertiary care.

The comprehensive integration of these services required NHS England to establish Managed Clinical Networks (MCN) for each of the specialties, linking clinicians across all settings to provide patient-centred care throughout the clinical pathway, including improving clinical effectiveness, equity of access, efficiency and parity of outcome.

It is the responsibility of the Chair of the Managed Clinical Network to oversee the functioning of such, in line with the Terms of Reference published by NHS England. This requires close communication with identified clinicians from all aspects of dentistry who are representative members of the Network.

Ultimately, the role of the MCN, through the leadership of the Chair, is to ensure high quality patient care in an equitable manner across the South West region.
