We are making it easier for NHS organisations to discover, share, and adopt digital solutions that improve patient care and operational efficiency. The Solution Exchange is a central catalogue within the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) that brings together proven tools and innovations from across the health and care system, helping teams to collaborate, avoid duplication, and accelerate the safe use of data-driven solutions.
NHS trusts and integrated care systems can browse the catalogue, deploy solutions directly into their local platform, or use the secure developer workspace to build and test new tools with sample data.
What’s available in the Solution Exchange?
The catalogue offers a growing collection of digital tools and resources, with new solutions and features being added regularly:
- ready-made dashboards and analytics tools: visual and interactive dashboards providing actionable insights into key NHS priorities, such as patient flow, waiting lists, and operational performance
- reusable data pipelines and data models: pre-built components that enable organisations to process, integrate, and analyse data efficiently, supporting consistent and reliable reporting
- tools for common NHS tasks: solutions addressing everyday challenges, including patient flow management and waiting list tracking
- templates and best practice workflows: standardised templates and workflow guides reflecting NHS best practice
- resources for developers: guidance, sample code, and tools to support building, testing, and submitting new solutions
How the Solution Exchange works
The Solution Exchange is organised into 3 main components:
- catalogue: a comprehensive listing of available solutions. Each entry includes a clear description, benefits and use cases, deployment requirements, and technical details
- deployment: NHS organisations can select solutions and request deployment directly into their local platform for rapid adoption and configuration
- NHS developer environment: developers can access a secure workspace with synthetic data to safely build, test, and refine new solutions before submitting them to the catalogue
Benefits of the Solution Exchange
- faster adoption of proven solutions: quickly identify and deploy tools that have demonstrated value elsewhere
- reduced duplication of effort: avoid unnecessary redevelopment by making existing solutions visible and accessible
- improved data consistency and safety: promote standardised, well-tested solutions for safer data use
- support for innovation and collaboration: foster continuous improvement by sharing successful approaches across the NHS
- enhanced patient care and operational efficiency: access digital tools that improve outcomes and streamline processes
Who can use the Solution Exchange?
NHS trusts and integrated care systems with an NHS FDP instance:
- access the Solution Exchange from your NHS FDP homepage
- browse the full catalogue, build and develop products to share, and deploy solutions
NHS organisations without an NHS FDP instance:
- browse the public catalogue
- register interest in specific tools for future access
NHS developers:
- request access to the secure developer workspace
- build and test new tools using synthetic data
- submit solutions for review and catalogue inclusion
The Solution Exchange for third party suppliers
The Solution Exchange is a gateway for third party suppliers to connect with the NHS at scale, showcase proven digital innovations, and play a direct role in transforming patient care and operational efficiency across the health and care system. By listing your solution, you position your organisation at the heart of NHS digital transformation, opening up new opportunities for collaboration, credibility, and growth. Whether you’re looking to expand your reach, accelerate adoption, or demonstrate the value of your products, the Solution Exchange provides a trusted platform to help you succeed.
Here’s how your organisation and solution can benefit from being listed on the Solution Exchange:
Validate your solution with the NHS, before you scale
- Real-world clinical and operational validation: access structured, iterative feedback from a broad network of NHS users across acute, community and system settings. Refine your solution against real-world workflows and operational priorities not hypothetical use cases.
- Independent assurance from NHS England: solutions are assessed against Solution Exchange Standards covering technical interoperability, governance, security and operational suitability.
Identify and capture clear NHS demand signals
- Direct insight into NHS priorities: gain visibility of unmet needs and live demand signals across 200+ NHS organisations using the NHS Federated Data Platform. Rather than guessing where to invest solution effort, you can align development to clearly articulated system priorities.
- A national showcase for proven solutions: the Solution Exchange acts as a trusted catalogue enabling NHS organisations to discover and deploy validated solutions. For scale-ups and larger organisations, this provides a trusted point of reference, national visibility and a clear signal of endorsement within the NHS ecosystem.
- Build institutional trust: demonstrate that your solution meets NHS standards, integrates into NHS data architecture, performs within real operational settings. This validation reduces perceived risk for NHS CIOs and CCIOs, ICB decision-makers, Procurement teams and Investors and strategic partners .
Accelerate development and deployment at scale
- Access to the FDP Centre of Excellence: leverage platform tooling, technical guidance, and structured enablement to ensure your solution is optimised for deployment within the NHS Federated Data Platform. This includes technical onboarding, data model alignment, best practice design patterns and interoperability guidance.
- Seamless integration via the NHS Canonical Data Model: build once, deploy many. By aligning to the NHS Data Model, your solution can integrate more consistently across trusts and systems, reducing the cost and complexity of repeated local integration. For enterprises, this materially reduces deployment overhead. For SME, it avoids bespoke rebuilds for every new customer.
From pilot to scaled adoption
- The Solution Exchange is designed to move beyond isolated pilots by standardising technical and governance requirements, enabling repeatable deployment patterns, creating visibility across NHS organisations and supporting commercial strategy development
