NHS England
Participation is key to our work at NHS England and to our vision and values.
We are committed to working with patients, carers and the public in a wide range of ways. We believe that by allowing people to make their views heard at all levels and across all parts of the healthcare system we can make health services better for everyone, especially those who need health services the most.
NHS England has a legal duty to make sure that participation is part of the work we do in planning and buying certain services, these are:
- Primary care – GP, dental, pharmacy and optometry,
- Specialised services – for example for rare conditions,
- Armed forces,
- Health and justice,
- Public health.
Our Patient and Public Participation Policy sets out how we will make sure that participation is at the heart of everything we do. We have also published guidance for our staff to outline how we should be involving patients and the public.
