Whitehill and Bordon’s vision

Whitehill and Bordon is being transformed from a garrison to a green and healthy town. A complex, multi partner, 15 year programme will deliver 3,350 new homes, a new town centre with new leisure centre, secondary school,, cinema and health hub and 80 hectares of suitable alternative natural greenspace. The regeneration partnership is committed to a green and healthy vision for the town which that makes it easy for people to live healthy and active and independent lives, where it is easier to  walk and cycle than travel by car and the town centre is a healthy food environment. People with long-term conditions will be supported to live independently and actively in their own homes for as long as possible. Care will be redesigned so that residents can access primary and specialist care locally when they need it.

Priorities

The Healthy New Towns programme in Whitehill and Bordon has the following priorities:

  • More active children and adults with healthier weights
  • Improved educational attainment and raised aspirations
  • Lower incidence of poor mental health
  • Homes which support residents at each stage of their life – Design and implement the organisational infrastructure for technology enabled care to support people to live safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible, self manage long term conditions and have remote access to specialist care when needed.
  • The right care in the right place at the right time – with a new town centre Health Hub that builds upon the South Eastern Hampshire CCG “Multi-specialty Community Provider (MCP) Vanguard” initiative will be delivered in 2019.
  • A cohesive community with equal opportunities for new and existing residents

Examples of work carried out

  • Design for Dementia friendly Hogmoor Inclosure complete.
  • ‘Play for Health’ plan for Hogmoor enclosure complete and natural play area opened.
  • Outline business case developed for health hub.
  • Developed and implemented action plan arising from opportunities identified in active travel audit.
  • Enhanced active travel around town.
  • Couch to 5k, surgery sign posters and other initiatives rolled out

Examples of work to be completed

  • Health hub design / technical specification to be finalised and funding secured.
  • Multispecialty Community Provider care providers contract finalised.
  • Case study detailing outcome of Better Care adaptations/ falls prevention project produced.
  • Virtual demonstration home to showcase new technologies to support care needs of the elderly in their homes – this will be a series of short videos / vlogs and possibly some virtual reality which can be used by health professionals and relatives to show how new technology can support people to live independently at home.
  • Insight work into inactive families, social isolation and schools currently being undertaken to shape future community engagement initiatives
  • Quebec Café food project opening in Autumn 2017
  • Townwide wayfinding strategy which will be playful and interactive, using landmarks and water features to make it easy and fun to navigate around town.
