Cancer patients in Leicester will see treatment times reduced thanks to a new True Beam Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine, installed as part of the £130m investment in radiotherapy services.
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust was among the first to receive a new LINAC, which replaced an older model that had been in place for 10 years. Lorraine Williams, Head of Radiotherapy at the University Hospitals of Leicester Trust, said:
“The new equipment has made a huge difference to our patients, of whom there are 120-155 daily. Making the latest technology in this field available to patients is vital, as 40% of those diagnosed with cancer will undergo radiotherapy as part of their treatment.”
