Children and young people

Children and young people (CYP) up to 18 years old make up one fifth of the UK’s population. Improving their health and wellbeing is an investment in future generations and the prosperity of this country.

Our ambitions for improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people in England are wide ranging and are taken forward under the leadership of our National Clinical Director for Children, Young People and Transition, Dr Jacqueline Cornish, and our Associate National Clinical Director for Children, Young People and Transition, Dr Claire Lemer.

From improving care for children with special educational needs, supporting development of new models of care, improving CYP mental health services to improving transition from pediatric to adult services, you will find links to NHS England’s major programmes on this page.
