Implementation of the National Quarterly Pulse Survey (NQPS) has now been confirmed as a requirement for all NHS trusts.
In July 2021*, all NHS trusts across England will need to run a survey every quarter (except Quarter 3, to account for the annual Staff Survey fieldwork) which includes the nine engagement theme questions from the annual NHS staff survey. There is flexibility in the method of collection – Trusts can choose to utilise the national People Pulse, existing internal surveys, or their current Staff Friends and Family Test (Staff FFT) provider.
This document has been created to support trusts by answering frequently asked questions about the National Quarterly Pulse Survey.
*Organisations are expected to implement the National Quarterly Pulse Survey in July 2021. Organisations which are unable to implement for quarter two 2021/22 can start data collection from the first month of quarter four (January 2022). The National Staff Survey will take place in quarter three 2021/22.
The National Quarterly Pulse Survey is being implemented with support from the Staff Experience and Engagement Team within the People Directorate at NHS England and NHS Improvement.
