Ian Roddis
Director of Digital, Data and Technology, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

Over the past 18 months, Ian Roddis has led one of the most comprehensive digital transformations in NHS South East, shifting Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust from paper-based systems to a fully connected, mobile-enabled digital environment. Rather than imposing technology from above, Ian involved frontline staff in designing every system, ensuring solutions were practical, intuitive, and genuinely useful at the bedside.
Key achievements include Trust-wide deployment of Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration, replacing paper medication records with real-time digital access and automated safety alerts. He introduced electronic clinical documentation, rolled out mobile devices for district nurses and community therapists, and implemented Badgernet in maternity services — giving mothers secure digital access to their own records. Investment in infrastructure, cybersecurity, and weekly staff forums has created an empowered, digitally confident workforce.
For patients, the benefits are tangible: safer medicines management, complete care records, and a more responsive, joined-up service. Ian describes his approach as putting clinical excellence first:
“Technology should be a catalyst for better care, not simply an upgrade.”
Ian is one of 78 NHS South East colleagues featured in a campaign marking the NHS’s 78th birthday and the first anniversary of England’s 10 Year Health Plan.
