Katie Clough – Consultant Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist IOW Division – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Katie Clough believes the best care is the kind that helps people look after themselves.
With 18 years in the NHS, Katie has built a career around empowering patients with joint, muscle and bone conditions to understand their health, manage their pain, and live their lives to the full. As a Consultant Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, her work spans clinical care, leadership, education and service innovation — and she brings the same philosophy to all of it.
“Patients often want to understand what’s happening and feel confident managing their health, rather than being passed between services,” she says. “Supporting people in that way is what really matters to me.”
What makes Katie’s contribution to the 10 Year Health Plan particularly remarkable is that her work touches all three of its core shifts. She has helped redesign MSK services so that more care is delivered in accessible community settings, reducing unnecessary hospital visits and making it easier for patients to get the right support through a single point of entry. She led the development of a digital MSK platform enabling self-referral and self-management, putting reliable information in the hands of both patients and clinicians. And at the heart of everything she does is a commitment to early intervention and prevention — equipping people with the knowledge and confidence to stay well before problems escalate.
“The NHS is full of people who go above and beyond because they genuinely want to help others,” she reflects. “To me, it represents something truly special — care that is there for everyone.”
Katie’s work is proof that when care is brought closer to home, made more accessible, and focused on keeping people well, everyone benefits.
