Nina Crump, Primary Care Digital Programme Manager, Surrey and Sussex ICB
Working in the NHS has been the most rewarding part of Nina Crump’s career to date.
The primary care digital programme manager has worked across several sectors and brings this experience to her role within the Primary Care IT and Digital team at Surrey and Sussex ICB.
There, Nina supports GP practices to modernise how they deliver services and manage patient demand – transitioning from traditional approaches to more efficient, digitally enabled models of care. This has included improving online access for patients while making sure patients retain choice around how they choose to access services; streamlining administrative processes; and helping introducing technologies that reduce workload and improve experience for both patients and staff.
“I’ve worked across a number of sectors, but the last nine years in the NHS have been the most rewarding. The rapid shift to digital access during Covid-19 showed what’s possible when providers and commissioners respond at pace, and it’s been a real privilege to be part of both that and ongoing digital transformation. Supporting practices to move from analogue to digital – improving access for patients while reducing pressure on staff – is incredibly motivating, and a great example of how the NHS continues to evolve to meet people’s needs.”
Nina’s work supports the shift from analogue to digital by enabling high levels of online access across general practice, including widespread use of online consultations and the NHS App. It is helping improve patient access to primary care services through digital triage, so people can receive care earlier and closer to home. It also reduces administrative burden on practices through automation, such as new patient registration, and through more efficient digital workflows. Alongside this, innovative technologies including AI-supported workflow tools, telephony and scribes are being introduced and scaled to improve productivity and release clinical time.
