Sunita Patil Head of Clinical Systems Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Shift: Analogue to Digital
For Sunita Patil, technology is never just about systems, it is about the people those systems serve. As Head of Clinical Systems at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, she leads the teams responsible for ensuring the Trust’s clinical technology is safe, reliable, and genuinely embraced by the clinicians and patients who depend on it every day.
Over three years in the role, Sunita has overseen a wide-ranging portfolio: managing and optimising core clinical applications, governing upgrade and release cycles, maintaining rigorous testing standards, and leading the Trust’s Clinical Systems Support function. She works in close partnership with system users to resolve issues quickly and effectively, keeping care on track when technology challenges arise.
Her contribution to Buckinghamshire’s digital transformation is substantial. Having successfully rolled out electronic prescribing across the majority of Trust sites, Sunita and her team are now driving a broader shift, modernising infrastructure through critical system upgrades, introducing automation testing to improve quality and efficiency, and replacing paper-based processes with streamlined digital workflows. The long-term vision is clear: a fully connected, paperless organisation where technology reduces errors, saves time, and puts patients in greater control of their own care.
Sunita describes the NHS as her Karmabhoomi, a concept from Hindu philosophy meaning the sacred ground where one’s life work and true purpose meet. For her, every system delivered, every clinician trained, and every digital process made safer is an expression of the NHS’s founding commitment to putting patients first.
Working alongside the Director of Digital, Data and Technology, she helps shape the Trust’s Digital Strategy, ensuring it remains grounded in both local need and national direction.
