Sascha Mullen
Chief Nursing Information Officer and Clinical Safety Officer, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust

Sascha Mullen leads clinical informatics, digital transformation, and clinical safety at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, working across clinical, operational, and technical teams to ensure digital systems are safe, usable, and genuinely embedded into everyday care.
His achievements speak for themselves. Frimley Health recently achieved HIMSS Level 6 — a internationally recognised benchmark reflecting how effectively digital systems are being used to improve patient care. Sascha is now leading the rollout of Barcode Medication Administration to improve medication safety and traceability, replacing outdated bleep systems with modern communication tools, and introducing ambient voice technology to reduce documentation burden and free clinicians to spend more time with patients.
Beyond his Trust role, Sascha chairs the NHS England South East Digital Clinical Safety Community of Practice and co-chairs the Digital Health Network Clinical Safety Officer Council, shaping digital safety policy at regional and national level. He also sits on the National Patient Safety Response Advisory Panel.
“For me, the NHS is about delivering safe, compassionate care to every patient, every time,” he says. “Digital transformation is a key part of that — moving us from analogue to digital in a way that genuinely supports staff, improves safety, and enhances the experience of care.”
Sascha is one of 78 NHS South East colleagues celebrated as part of a campaign marking the NHS’s 78th birthday and the first anniversary of England’s 10 Year Health Plan.
