Systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) dose banding

National dose banding tables

The systemic anti‑cancer therapies dose standardisation initiative was developed by NHS England’s former Medicines Optimisation and Chemotherapy Clinical Reference Groups. It aims to standardise SACT dosing to deliver benefits for patients and hospital trusts.

Dose banding involves rounding doses to align closely with available vial sizes. This approach reduces waste and, as doses are often prepared in advance, can also shorten waiting times for patients receiving SACT.

The national dose banding tables are intended for use by pharmacy teams in all NHS hospital trusts in England to ensure a consistent approach across all organisations.

NHS England and NICE consider dose standardisation to represent the standard of care for adult patients treated within the NHS in England. Accordingly, where patients are receiving standard‑of‑care treatment as part of a clinical trial, dosing should be aligned to standardised (banded) doses.
