Are there guidelines on producing accessible communications?

The Accessible Information Standard was published by NHS England, following approval as a new ‘information standard’ for the NHS and adult social care system, in July 2015.

The ‘Accessible Information Standard’ directs and defines a specific, consistent approach to identifying, recording, flagging, sharing and meeting individuals’ information and communication support needs, where those needs relate to a disability or sensory loss. All providers of NHS and / or adult social care must follow the Standard in full by 31 July 2016.

The Implementation Guidance for the Standard provides general advice on producing accessible documents. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 covers a wide range of recommendations for making web content more accessible.
