A new doctors’ mess in North Cheshire and Mersey
A newly opened mess gives resident doctors a dedicated space to relax and recharge, with snacks, coffee, shower facilities and workstations available for a modest monthly membership. Food and drink are accessible around the clock, and 2 bookable sleep pods support rest and recovery after night shifts.
A new medical rostering system is being introduced, supporting the trusts commitment to issuing schedules 8 weeks in advance, giving greater certainty over working patterns. A new annual leave policy aligned to NHS England’s minimum standards is in development, and a new exception reporting framework introduced in February 2026 makes it easier to raise concerns about hours and safety.
The trust meets its statutory training obligations through the Memorandum of Understanding, recognising prior learning from other organisations. It has also signed the NHS England sexual safety charter and introduced face-to-face sexual safety training across all resident doctor teaching programmes.
A bi-monthly resident doctors forum brings together representatives from all care groups to share ideas and drive further improvements.
