Rapid gains by central and north west London
Central and north west London NHS Foundation Trust has seen the number of its trainees saying their trust listened to them and acted on their feedback climb from 59% to 98% between September 2025 and December 2025
The trust established a weekly working group bringing together peer representatives, Medical Staffing, Medical Education, and the Guardian of Safe Working Hours. Working closely with residents, payroll, and service management, the group identified gaps, shared best practice, and developed practical solutions grounded in resident doctors’ feedback.
The improvements have been wide-ranging. Dedicated parking spaces and out-of-hours taxis are making getting to and from work easier and safer. Lockers at all sites give doctors a secure space for their belongings, while smart fridges, vending machines, air conditioning, and upgraded IT and AV equipment are improving day-to-day working conditions. Rest spaces have been enhanced through thoughtful environmental improvements, including plants and wall art to create a more welcoming and restorative atmosphere.
A new expenses system ensures timely reimbursement, and protected work-from-home time has been built into work schedules. Board-level support has been maintained throughout, with ongoing 10 Point Plan working group meetings keeping the momentum up.
The results have been recognised beyond the trust — a peer representative who also serves as a British Medical Association (BMA) trainee representative to the Local Negotiating Committee commended the trust’s commitment and the quality of work delivered across all ten points.
