NHS Patient Survey Programme – Qualitative Insight

The NHS Patient Survey Programme is led by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. It gathers feedback from patients about their experiences with NHS services, helping to identify areas for improvement and support quality assurance across the healthcare system. The programme is made up of five surveys: Adult Inpatient Survey, Urgent and Emergency Care Survey, Maternity Survey, Children and Young People’s Survey and Community Mental Health Survey.

The CQC manage and publish the results of the quantitative data, which can be found on their website.

NHS England undertook thematic analysis of the qualitative data from the five CQC surveys, to identify key themes and variations in patient experiences, highlighting good practices, and uncovering areas for improvement.

For each survey, a representative sample was drawn from respondents who provided written feedback to the open-ended question(s).
