Dental commissioning

These statistics show the amount of NHS dental activity that has been commissioned, measured in Units of Dental Activity (UDAs).

These figures are published on a quarterly basis.

Guidance

UDAs are a measure of the amount of work done during dental treatment. More complex dental treatments count for more UDAs than simpler ones.

The figures are broken down into two groups:

  • UDAs commissioned where the dental service is being provided;
  • UDAs commissioned in contracts not yet delivering services (for example, UDAs in new contracts, where the contract has been signed but the dental activity has not yet started).

Data

Last quarter

  • March 2020 – to reduce the burden on dental commissioners and ensure capacity to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the decision not to collect DC01 data for the foreseeable future. We will advise when this changes.
